WriteUp: Who Am I?

You really need to ask yourself this quesstion

You really need to ask yourself this quesstion

Been a while in this category right? You haven’t seen a post in our Creative Writing category in a while? You are right, you are not mistaken. I wouldn’t lie to you guys, I ran out of inspiration on things to write. I just stuck to other categories on our blog.
But today as I opened the blog’s official twitter account @SMD_Nation I saw a tweet by a follower @uncle_ajala,the tweet was “Who Am I? Am an architect”. Tweeps started pouring in ‘who they are’ I did so too. But I saw more in that tweet. And I was like “dude, use your head. Why don’t you write on this”. Then I started thinking.
Now though @UNCLE_AJALA may have meant something else but I saw more in the question. He meant what you do for a living but what I saw in that question was ‘Your Personality’? ‘When people see you, what do they see?’ ‘What do they think of you?’
Who you really are is determined by what you portray to people! What people actually think about you. To you, you might feel “Oh they hold me in esteem, cos they know how rich I am. I always let them know that” but dude you might be mistaken. They may see you as that arrogant peacock, as that ass that boasts about his riches. That is who you truly are, because that is what people see in you. Let me use twitter as a case study. Some tweeps are the cool type ‘in their normal lives’. They are cultured, mannered, gentle… But when they come on twitter, just for the sake of gaining followers, they become uncensored, they start tweeting arrant nonsense, things they wouldn’t dare do in their ‘normal life’. But to your fellow tweeps, that is who you are, the ‘uncensored,ill-mannered tweep’. They don’t care who you truly are in your normal life because this is all they see.
So now I ask ‘Who Are You?’ ‘How do people look at you?’ I have a cousin who held me in very very very high esteem, but I did just one stupid thing and I lost that respect! I ‘fammed’ like he would say. He knows who I am truly but because of that one mistake, I lost it. Now I am trying to creep back into his heart, back into that ‘high place’ he placed me.
You all will also have that one person who knows ‘Who You truly are’ but don’t blow it because you want to feel among.
So I ask again, Who Are You? Answer that and make adjustments if you have to. Bless.

P.S- Kindly follow @UNCLE_AJALA he is a cool tweep.
P.S- Please follow our official twitter page @SMD_Nation
P.S.S- If you feel that this article is crap, pls tell me, I think am running out of inspiration to write.

Write-Up: Nigeria,Our Songs Of Lamentation

Map of Nigeria

Map of Nigeria

“Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria… Oh Nigeria our dear nation. The land that flows with honey. Filled with abundant mineral resources and blessed with wonderful terrain. Favoured nation. No incidence of natural disaster. What a nation we have. We are blessed”

In recent times, that I have experienced also,if you come out and you start saying all these afore-mentioned cock and bull story,my brother na slap u go chop.
We are tired. Nigerians are tired. Nothing seems to be working in this country,am sorry to say, nothing. To be candid, our land is blessed with abundant natural resources, good terrain and we are spared of all the natural disasters, but still we are worse than nations who don’t have all these good qualities. What is the problem? What went wrong?
I was talking to a group of people today, that was largely made up of people who are over 25 years old (that tells you there’s a bit of maturity in whatever they will say) and in the group was an respectable elderly woman probably in her late 50s. The core of discussion was Nigeria’s predicament. The topic that set the discussion rolling was the issue of NEPA officials (they like to call themselves PHCN or whatever) coming into our hood to cut off electricity supply due to unpaid bills of the previous month.
Some section of our neighbours decided not to give a damn “make una cut am.light sef no kuku dey before, abegi cut am” most of them said. My mother and our closest neighbours paid just for paying sake. When they left, history books were opened. The elderly woman told us of how the nation was in good shape before it all came crashing down. She told us of how power supply was off the hook. How ‘light’ used to be 2/4.
Looking at Nigeria now, nothing is working. Power supply failure, fuel scarcity, unemployment, incessant terrorist attacks and killings, insecurity, bad educational sector, detoriorating health sector,to mention just a few.
My uncle who is earnestly searching for job after university education was just singing ‘Songs Of Lamentation’. He kept on saying ‘this nation is f**ked,I need to get out of here, I need to’ He evaluated how life is in the States, how things go smoothly over there.
This nation’s predicament is killing me,I am running out of inspiration because of constant thinking. To post sef na wahala. My phone is always going off. No ‘light’ no fuel.
See I cannot shout. All am saying is if this country doesn’t get better soon, then it will become empty, because everyone will find a way to leave this country. Am planning to leave even if it is to Ghana. Am tired of this country. This country can kill the talent in you.

P.S- Please tell our leaders to do something
P.S.S- Please note that I wrote this because there’s freedom of speech ni o. Pls am just a small boy. Thank you

POEM: When Will This Violence Stop? (In Honour of Students killed in Yobe State)

Down North of Nigeria
Its all ‘bruhaha’ and ‘wahala’
Every day they wake up to Boko Haram
Those of us here enjoy laughter
But these kids are always in fear
News of 8,9,10,12 year olds
Dying so cold.
Instead it be them, let it be me
Since I would die inevitably
Some others not me
Is able to see
That as long as we live in a country
A country that’s not safe
Where no one is safe
The rich ones try to escape
The truth,goverment try to evade
Must we sacrifice their bloods
For these evil ones for long?
Students in school
Trying to be something cool
Trying to be useful
To this country by being someting in future
But yet there life is cut short
Do we have to look on
As future leaders die young?
Most of them my age
Most of them my mate
Some of them were cute ‘Miss Lane’
Let somebody keep the memory
Memory of the way they died
Maybe a change, maybe somebody can try
So by then we can say
Tomorrow is better, but no not this day
Maybe some other can pray
Some other can fight
The wrong done to me,some other can right
Then maybe that can save another life
Do we still want another young soul to die?
*sobs*When I die,when I am gone
The reason am gone
Let it be known
It feels like I stood there watching
The brutal killing
And I added my silence
To their violent screams
Are we really gonna keep silent?
Are we going to stay doing nothing?
Must we watch them continue their killings?
Maybe it will end when it is Jonathan’s children
Some parents out there have their hopes dampen
Hopes of a better future via their children….

RIP to all those 49 students killed in Yobe State
I imagine if I were to be in such state
Such situation….
RIP RIP to every single one of y’all

Write-Up: Why wont you want to succeed?

Success, success, success. A lot of people keep mentioning this massive word without knowing how important it is to human existence. Success is success, no matter your field. Once your achievements keep coming in multiple folds, then you are a success. Some find success in doing what they please, some in what they desire, some in what they dream of.
Some might be shocked with my headline ‘Why won’t u want to succeed?’ You will ask yourself, who doesn’t want to succeed? Well everybody claim they want to succeed but some won’t! Why? The things you do to attain that success will tell either you want to succeed. I once tweeted ‘People be sitting at home saying Money Must Be Made without a job,my brother the only thing you will make is continued poverty’ I tweeted.
Its a really good thing to dream, but please brother, wake up and work that dream. You dreams will remain ‘dreams’ if you don’t work to achieve those dreams. Martin Luther King JR said ‘I have a DREAM…’ He didn’t stop at just dreaming, he made moves to make sure that dream became a reality and alas, it is a reality now.
Some people are the reason why they won’t succeed. Look at the terrain in Nigeria. Every wise man now knows that a certificate won’t guarantee you success (Don’t get me wrong, education is vital). You just have to think outside the box. Aliko Dangote (pictured below) is Africa’s richest man. He studied Business Studies in school but today he is making real cash out of mass production. Your academics will only be a vital-added advantage to whatever you do. The long list of rich people in Nigeria is made up of people outside the school walls. Don’t just say ‘Ok I studied Mechanical Engineering in school,I am guaranteed success’ No way pal,it doesn’t work that way.
First thing is conception. Get an idea of what you want to do with your life. Then work on it. Work, work, work on it until you get there.
Also don’t let what people say about you deter you from where you are going. Ben Carson (pictured below) was an academic reject. In his fifth grade, teachers and class mates alike all tod him he won’t amount to anything. But look at him today, he is one of the best,if not the best neuro-surgeon in the world.
My brother,DON’T GIVE UP on your dream. Just thrive to make them happen. Dream on but don’t be caught and stranded in dreamland. You will get there. I will get there. We will get there. Bless. Have a nice month.
